4 South Island Pet Friendly Stays!

Trying to organise a holiday that includes your furry family member can be hard!

But there is good news – pet-friendly holiday accommodation options are growing. And with a focus on domestic tourism for the foreseeable future, hopefully, more accommodation providers will begin to offer pet-friendly accommodation.

We want to encourage and support people to take holidays that include your pet or furry family member. To do this we’ve reached out to Pets Can Come Too, a Kiwi organisation listing pet-friendly holiday accommodation options across the country. After looking through their South Island listings, we’ve pulled some together to share with you.

Cloud 9 Retreat

Located on the outskirts of Dunedin, this property is amazing! With floor to ceiling windows in almost every room, you get spectacular views of the beach. This luxury holiday pad has 3 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms and can accommodate up to 6 people. It is a real indulgence! As you’d expect, the prices reflect this and range from $695-$1230 per night. You do need to pay an extra $23 to bring your pets with you. At the moment, the per-night price is $695 until the end of September. So if you’d like to stay, now’s the time!

Ballarat Cottage

Naseby

Want to feel like you’ve travelled back in time? This is the place! This cosy, warm cottage and surrounding garden provide a relaxed, old-world feel. It was built from mud bricks in 1867 and has a newer extension. This cottage has 3 bedrooms, 1 bathroom and can accommodate up to 6 people. If you’re bringing your pet you need to message the owner to let them know. It costs $130 per night.

Stags Head Cottage

Arrowtown

Craving that old-world feel but with modern-day comforts? Well, this cottage delivers. It is a modern replica of the beautiful, traditional cottages of Arrowtown. Situated 7 minutes’ walk from the village, you’ll be able to enjoy Arrowtown without having to get in the car! At the end of a long day of exploring, you can soak in the hot tub.

This cottage has 3 bedrooms, 1 bathroom and can accommodate up to 8 people. Depending on when you want to go, the cost per night is between $280 – $556. You do need to pay a $23 fee for having pets stay with you.

The Sandcastle

Craving a quiet place surrounded by nature to relax? Then this is it! The Sandcastle offers 6 self-contained cabins each with a balcony offering sea and garden views. There is also a sauna and hot tub you can use. The cabins include a small kitchen and hand-crafted wood furniture. Cabins start from $100 per night.

The grounds feature an olive grove, pond, sculptures and small herb garden which guests are able to use. There is also an outdoor pizza oven and BBQ area. Depending on how you’re feeling you can also indulge in a massage or attend a yoga class.
