Jessie is a medium breed dog, 28kgs and stands 55cm at the shoulder. At best guess Jessie is a Foxy, crossed with a collie or farm breed dog. She was first in the rescue at 3 months of age, she has been in a home now for 2 years and the home as become unable to manage the commitments of a dog and their children through no fault of Jessies. She is extremly well behaved and a good dog. We are looking now for her FOR EVER HOME only, someone who understands the pets are a commitment for their lifetime.
She is fully house trained & is very food motivated and clever, easily trained and can learn a new tricks very quickly. She has done basic obedience and complies well with a myriad of skills including: sit, down, off, leave it, stay, wait, go lay down (during dinner time), find it (to find treats), drop it, heel etc. She is currently participating in a dog behavioural specialist’s training and learning a myriad of other skills and demonstrates a real knack for scent work, agility and general learning. She loves to play fetch and tug and absolutely loves to chase and be chased – by people or other dogs. She loves to go for walks/runs and after the initial burst of energy gets out, she can slow her pace and walk with a loose leash consistently. Jessie loves rope toys, plush toys, anything with a squeaker, bones, balls etc, although she can chew through them rather quickly. However Jessie can keep a rubbery fetch ball for awhile and different bones like nylabones.
Jessie is excellent with small children & Children of all ages and has now been in a home with children for 2 years. She is gentle and will not take food from their hands or plates. She will also perform commands for them for treats. She has exposure to a cat and tolerates this fine. She previously had no known knowledge of cats and with positive reinforcement and a gradual introduction has managed this well enough to be allowed unsupervised time with the cat after 1-2 months. Jessie has had great exposure with many Friends dogs and really looks forward to spending time with them.
Jessie does like her space around her food with other animals, so if other animals in the home feeding seperately is required. Jessie also hates water – including rain and baths. She will allow you to bathe her without fighting it but trembles the entire time. She is definitely not a dog to take on the water, although she likes to play at the beach.
