My Tale

Meet Miss Maple. Maple joined our family in Beachlands one week ago today. After taking a couple of days to settle into the family, she has started to relax and enjoy the company of Poppy (our 5 yo Huntaway x) our two teenage boys and has developed a particular soft spot for Dad.

Maple looks to be around two years old and has had a couple of litters. She was found wandering the streets, so we are unsure of her background. She is eager to please and has learnt some manners playing with Poppy and behaving inside. She is toilet trained, and has a good food drive, not too driven but good enough to do some training with. She will sit and stay before eating, opening doors, staying out of the kitchen etc. Maple will need a family who have a solid and high fenced property, she is a bit of an escape artist. She is good on a nose halter lead and is learning to socialise with dogs at the park while she is on the lead. Given her tendency to bolt when the gate opens, we have not tested her off the lead yet, but we are working on her recall in the back yard and she is getting good at fetch (still working on give ) She remains on high alert to environmental sounds and will bark quite a bit, but is also quite self-contained playing with toys or bugs in the garden. She had a trip to the vet yesterday to start her vaccination programme, she was extremely well behaved at the vet (however, was a little agitated on the car journey there) and the vet gave her clean bill of health, other than what appears to be a small irritation in her ear, which we are treating with some cream.

She enjoys relaxing in her crate and will sleep through the night in it as well. She is a lovely girl and will make a great family member with a family who have another dog of similar size.
