About Us
HOW DO I ADOPT/WHAT IS THE PROCESS?
If you see a dog on our page that you’d like to meet please PM, email (dogadopt@hcc.govt.nz) or phone (07 838 6664) us. We would like to know a bit about you and what kind of home you can offer - are you renting/owner occupied? do you have kids? other pets? have you had dogs before? how much time do you have to spend with a dog? what is your fencing like? why do you want a dog? etc. The more info you give us the better!
If we think you might be a good match for the dog we will arrange a day for you to visit. We want to meet the whole family and make sure everyone gets along well.
If the visit goes well you can fill out an Adoption Application before you leave.
We will go through applications when the dog is ready to go (generally after their 2nd vaccination). We do not rehome first in first served - we choose the home that best suits the dogs needs. We want the home to be forever, so do our best to ensure it’s a good match!
If your application is declined it doesn’t mean you are “not good enough” or we don’t want to adopt to you. You could be the perfect home for another dog :)
CAN WE JUST TURN UP & LOOK AT DOGS?
We prefer for people to contact us first, as above. This way we can let you know if the dog you are interested in might already be adopted, or isn’t available for viewing that day, or isn’t going to be a good match for your home.
WHAT IS THE COST?
$285. This goes towards getting the dog registered, microchipped, desexed, 1st & 2nd vaccination (kennel cough & parvo) & treated for fleas/worms.
WHAT IS YOUR ADDRESS & OPEN HOURS?
217 Ellis Street, Frankton, Hamilton. We are open 12:30-4:30pm, 7 days a week (excluding public holidays).
